Police arrest driver

A DRIVER with an expired temporary registration number from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) was arrested by the police in front of the offices of the Graphic Communications Group Limited last Friday.
Speaking with the Daily Graphic, an official from the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) explained that the driver (DVLA-2008) was using an expired trade plate with registration number DV4375 and was also driving without a licence.
According to him, imported vehicles with temporary registration numbers were supposed to be renewed yearly under DVLA regulations and the driver should have renewed the trade plate before using the vehicle.
He further noted that the driver should have had a log book which should have indicated his schedules.
The police also explained that the driver, under DVLA regulations, was not supposed to take more than three people, as the vehicle was defective.
“We have also been explaining the schedule of work and how clients should do business with the DVLA, but we always have reported cases of drivers undermining our operations through the issue of fake documents," he said.
He, therefore, appealed to the public to refrain from doing business with people who had no special identity from the DVLA to reduce the incidence of fake documents and improve efficiency.
